I recently planned and pulled off a baby shower for my friend, Jen. I have never planned one by myself before, so I turned to the Goddess of party planning and organizing, Martha Stewart! I used her Baby Shower Planner to make sure I had the basics covered. (It's free, so check it out!)
Jen basically gave me free reign to do what I wanted. The only thing she wanted was a pink and brown color scheme. I love that color combo, so that was A-okay with me! She was also okay with having the shower at her house, so that decision was easy!
First things first! Once Jen emailed me her guest list, I got to work on the invitations. I found the perfect ones at Target. They are made by Carlton Cards. Honestly, I was really disappointed with the lack of selection between Party City and Target! If I would have had more time, I would have ordered the invites online.
What's a baby shower without food?! Pinterest was a huge help with the menu. Here is the menu with links to all the recipes, where applicable.
Raspberry Chicken Salad
Veggies and Crackers with Dip
Sweet Berry Lemonade
After deciding on what games to play and what favors to make, it was a matter of shopping (yay!) and pulling every thing together. I made many many lists! A grocery list, a supplies list, a 'what to make' list for decorations, a 'what to cook list', a 'to do' list for the days leading up to the shower, and a 'to do' list for the day of the shower. I also wrote down an approximate timeline for the party, so I could keep things moving and not forget anything!
Wanna see some pictures? :)
I made some easy flower decorations. This idea I actually got from my best friend's baby shower that I helped plan back in the winter. They look super cute if you can hang them from the ceiling all around the room, too!
I can't remember where I got the idea for a Sweet Berry Lemonade from, but I know I didn't follow the recipe. Like at all! LOL You can certainly make homemade lemonade for this, but I used Country Time. :) I followed the package directions to make 2 gallons of pink lemonade, then I added a large can of pineapple juice, 1 L of club soda, a pint of raspberries, and a pint of blackberries. I also used large ice cubes with lemon slices that I made in a muffin pan.
To make it simple, I used a store bought veggie dip. The Helluva Good Greek Yogurt Dips are delicious! Of course, it always tastes even better out of a cute dish.
The Hawaiian Meatball recipe can be found above. Jen helped me skewer each meatball together with a pineapple chunk.
The Raspberry Chicken Salad was delicious served with a mix of spinach and arugula on toasted pita bread.
These sandwiches were SO GOOD!!! They would be great for any football parties you have coming up, too!
Overall, everyone said they loved everything! I was worried about not making enough food, but the only thing we ran out of was the ham and cheese sandwiches. There was just a little bit of everything else left!
Jen wanted cupcakes and had ordered them through a friend, but unfortunately she wasn't able to make them, so we had a bit of a cupcake emergency! My favorite grocery store, Harris Teeter, saved the day, though! They make the most delicious store bought cupcakes. They had 2 dozen pink and brown cupcakes ready for me in about 10 minutes!! They are awesome!!
I had an awesome idea for a party favor, but it just wouldn't work out for me. So, I decided I couldn't go wrong with chocolate chip cookies! I made little packages of 2 cookies each and tied them up with pink and brown ribbon.
Of course, Olivia was there to act as my super helper! She helped decorate and taste test all the food (mostly the desserts lol).
I really enjoy planning parties! Maybe, in the future, it could be something I make money at. But for now, I'll continue to have fun planning them for friends and family. :)
