Binder System of Office Organization

Note: First off, I have a video of how paper flows through my  office HERE, if you haven't seen it previously.

And 2nd Note: This post is part of an organizing contest over at Organizing Homelife  Please go HERE and vote for me! It's the one labelled Mom, Paper, Scissors. Thank you!!

Now, on to the post!

Certain parts of that system, mostly the Budget Box, was not working for me. I believe organizing is an ongoing process. We should always be reevaluating how we organize our spaces. So, since I was dissatisfied, I set out to create a binder system for my office. I believe this will work better because A.) it is portable. I am a busy! Sometimes it is helpful to be able to grab my bills and pay them during lunch or on the road. B.) It is more organized. In the Budget Box, everything was thrown in, causing a delay in finding paperwork that needed acted on. It really was just a way to get the stuff out of sight, but wasn't very organized. C.) The current binder system I had for certain paperwork wasn't working for me. I didn't use it often and things went undone. It needed reorganized!

Another note: I did film a video for this. YouTube is being super duper slow in uploading, so I will add that once it is ready. So, please check back!

Here are my results! (If you are interested in the products I used, please check out the list below!)

Isn't it pretty?! Here is a rundown of what each binder includes:
Home Management Binder: Bills, Accounts, Budget, Savings, Debt
Planning Binder: Parties, Holidays, Blog Ideas, Vacation
Medical Binder: Medical Info, Insurance Info, Prescription Logs

I used tabs to divide up each section, and if a section needed further dividing, I used cardstock with Post It sticky tabs on the top.

Pics are also on my Pinterest HERE !

The products I used:
Colorful Pens (on Clearance at Target, so I'm not sure if they still have these.)

Free Printables came from:

Please comment if you like what you see!! And feel free to link back to your project!

Happy organizing! :)

    1. Thanks for looking and commenting! I had been wanting to do this for awhile, so this was the perfect opportunity! YouTube (still!) hasn't uploaded the video. It goes more in depth as to what is in each section. I will get that up as soon as possible!

    1. I think it will really help, especially the medical binder for all the kids immunizations and whatnot. I always have trouble tracking them down the morning of a doctor's appointment. Now I can just grab the binder and take it with me!

  10. I am constantly re-organizing. I think it's necessary, since things change all the time and you sometimes need to modify your organization. I like binders. I should attempt to make a few more up for some of my projects. Having everything in one place makes things so much easier!

    Happy SITS Day!

  11. This is such a great idea. I really need to do this. Right now, my home office is a mess and I can't find a thing. And when you have two toddlers at home, talk about the 'impossibility' (is there such a word?) of finding things! Thanks for this and have a happy SITS day :)

  12. I love using binders to organize my office. I find it difficult to actually have the discipline to put items where they belong in the binders but if I make myself do it then life is SOOOO much easier when I need something and I know exactly where it is! What do you do for very important documents such as birth certificates, etc. that need to be a fire proof safe? Do you keep a copy in a binder and the original in the safe or only the original in the safe? www.NoSkinnies.com

    1. Yes, I keep a copy in the binder in case I need to grab and go, but I keep the originals in a fireproof safe. I'm thinking of renting a safety deposit box for the originals, though, along with other important things.

    1. Aww that is so sweet! People put together binders for different reasons, but for ME...It provides an easily accessible option for all the paperwork I need available at a moment's notice. For example, on bill day, I just pull out the binder and there is my list of what to pay and the bill with the amount right together. I file away stuff I don't need to access frequently in a more traditional filing system. Hope that helps! I get a lot of my binder inspiration from the blogs A Bowl Full of Lemons and iheartorganizing.blogspot.com They both are AWESOME resources. Another good site is www.homeorganizing.com She has a ton of binder printables for free. :)
